Once a legend, paradigms were referred to as godly gifts. Now we know better. There are no acute moments of glory anymore. Instead, they are just collections of aesthetic principles that one understands and applies to turn a given idea into a great piece. Let us work our way through these one by one.

What comes to your mind when you picture a design? The most important factor is the line. Line, or perhaps simply the lines, the visual path was straight or curved, even thick or thin or anything in between, was the most basic but vital element of any design. Lines connect two points, establishing the structure of your designs. Lines direct viewers’ eyes by delineating boundaries, separating content, and creating paths for their gaze to follow along.

If colour were non-existent in the world, just imagine how empty everything would feel. Design is no different. Colour is just life to your design. It creates an atmosphere, brings forth emotions, and grabs attention. Use the colour wisely; it can be your best weapon. Otherwise, it leads to pandemonium.

Shapes create the framework of interpretation and perception. Geometric shapes are more orderly, regular, and convey efficiency. Organic shapes, however, are natural and give feelings of warmth and relaxation. Mix them up, and voila! You have a treat for your eyes!

Texture adds an extra dimension by rendering a tactile quality to the designs. Its monotony-breaking capacity makes designs built either in print or visual on-screen more engaging and accessible.

Of course, it is not necessary that every inch of space be filled in the canvas. Space, be it positive or negative, is that which helps define the connections between the various elements. Give your designs breathing spaces and they shall repay you with clarity, balance, and focus.

Leaving out, and quite certainly not the last, is all that is said about typography. It is not only about making it easy to read. The character and tone of it, combined with the visual interest, made the font quite an important element in typefaces. Very carefully use font styles; they all have their own character to the table.

It is not exactly magic, nor is it rocket science. It is knowing and using basic design components well, really. So, pick up that pencil or open that software and make your magic happen.
